Our meetings nights are always the first Monday of the month (unless that falls on a holiday, then it is the next Monday) at 7:30PM

Our work night / truck check night is the second Monday of the month at 7:30PM

Our drill night is the third Monday of the month at 7:30PM

While it is highly recommended you attend meetings, work nights and drills, it is not expected that you can attend them all. We completely understand that this is volunteer and things such as family obligations, work, school, etc may conflict with some of our activities.

If these dates and times conflict with any of your obligations, please do not let that stop you from joining/volunteering. We are happy to work with you on alternatives.

Connecticut Firefighter 1 (FFI) is the minimum professional level of competence required to work as an entry-level firefighter in the state. A certified FFI is qualified to function as an integral member of a firefighting team under direct supervision in hazardous conditions.

  • This certification is regulated by the Connecticut Commission on Fire Prevention and Control (CFPC) and is accredited by national bodies like the ProBoard Fire Service Professional Qualifications Systems.

  • Key Aspects of Connecticut Firefighter 1

  • Role and Supervision: An FFI operates as part of a team under direct supervision. This contrasts with the Firefighter II (FFII) level, where an individual functions under general supervision.

  • Training and Curriculum: The FFI training program is designed to meet the specifications of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1001 for entry-level personnel. It typically involves around 160 hours of training and education, covering:

    • Fire department operations, equipment, and safety.

    • Chemistry of fire and fire suppression techniques.

    • Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations.

  • Certification Requirements: To achieve FFI certification, a candidate must:

    • Be an active member of a fire department or actively enrolled as a student at an accredited regional institution.

    • Complete a state-approved training course.

    • Pass both a written examination and practical skills examinations administered by the state.

    • Provide verification of live fire suppression activities.

After your interview with the Membership Committee, your application will be brought up at our next Monthly Meeting where it is voted on by the membership. You will then be contacted by a member of that committee notifying you of the outcome. If you are accepted as a member the following happens.

  • You are placed on probation

  • Given a copy (or access) to the department's by-laws

  • Assigned to a Lieutenant or department member to begin one on one training, learn apparatus, what is expected of you, answer any questions you have.

  • Issued a department pager and access to the I Am Responding application for your phone.

  • Issued fire department turnout gear (helmet, coat, pants, boots, gloves, hood)

Absolutely. While we will still require you to be a member, you DO NOT have to be a firefighter.
